LAKELAND - Mike Powers, 54, passed away Sept. 13, 2009 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Mike was born on June 26, 1955 in Augusta, GA on the Ft. Gordon Army Base. He was employed by Publix for 30 years, primarily as a truck driver. Mike was a proud member of the Masons and a Shriner, and a member of First Baptist Church of Plant City. His hobbies included playing competitive softball for many years and a life- long love of golf.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Sparks; brother, George Powers; and father-in-law, Rod Hamlet. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Karen; sons, Michael R. Powers of Tampa, and Jared R. Powers of Lakeland; brothers, Daryl Sparks of Largo and Stephen Powers of Ft. Walton Beach.
Visitation will be Tues. from 5-8 p.m. at Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home, Southside Chapel, 1727 Bartow Rd., Lakeland. Services will be conducted on Wed. at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with interment to follow at Oak Hill Burial Park.
