Lakeland native and Lakeland High School graduate Dean Godfrey started his part-time radio work in the late 1980’s at News/Talk 1430 WLKF and eventually moved over to easy listening sister station WEZY for a couple of years. Faced with his job being eliminated there due to automation in 1992, he joined 97 Country WPCV across town.

Dean’s last radio work was in 1995 and 1996 when he returned to WLKF to do afternoon news. He suffered from some serious health issues which he was not able to overcome and passed away in 2000 at the age of 36.
