A raiser of 5 young men. Loved his students and coworkers dearly. A good friend to countless people. The only thing he loved more than being a father, was being a grandfather. Smartest man I’ve ever met or known, stubborn as a mule, and always had a joke to say on short notice. He lived on his feet and worked with his hands until his very last day. I know he would be happy and proud of that.

His impact and influence will be seen for generations to come. Seeing all of the kind messages and phone calls from people all over, speaking about fond memories and wonderful times with him in the past, and looking out into this room and seeing the amount of people here today is all just an amazing testament to a life well lived. If I could even possibly be half the man that he was, I would be amazed to [have] even come that close to a legacy like that.

It still doesn’t feel real. All it takes is time, but we will heal. This [is the] type of loss you are never really prepared for, and it stays with you. You just learn to grow and adjust with the pain. I am thankful for every second spent with him. Every corny joke, every home project being done on the fly with the wrong tools, every road trip, every sporting event, every piece of wisdom, every fun fact, every uncommon scientific or historical lesson, every last-minute school project being done late at night because it’s due tomorrow, every old timey classic movie, and every sign of the cross he would make on our foreheads at any point in time.

With this celebration of his life, I will make sure to keep his legacy alive and well. Taking the path less traveled even when it is difficult to do so, being a helping hand to anyone in a time of need, and inspiring & leading others to [see]  their own successful dreams come true.

Coming from experience I have one request for everyone here or reading this:

  • Take ALL of the pictures
  • Make ALL of the memories
  • NEVER be scared to tell your loved ones that you love them
  • NEVER hang up the phone angry
  • Share ALL of the stories
  • And ALWAYS hug and kiss your people.

And Pop, until we meet again, we’ll hold the fort down here. We love you lots, and we’ll be sure to say our prayer words every night. You will forever be missed by your youngest son, Eli.
