James William Kerzon
September 9, 1965 to June 24, 2008
He was 42 years old and resided in San Diego, CA
Jim completed his AA at Antelope Valley College, then transferred to San Diego State University where he received a degree in Criminal Justice. While there, he enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve, went through boot camp at San Diego and served as an enlisted Marine until graduating from college. Accepted a commission as a 2nd Lt in the Marine Corps, serving a total of 8 years (enlisted and officer). His military duties took him to the Mediterranean, then all the way around South America, plus a tour in the Gulf during the Persian Gulf War. Out of the Marines, he went through the Long Beach City Police Academy. Got married, moved back to Rhode Island and worked in security, divorced after four years, back to San Diego, and was working in the ship building and repair business when he married again in January 2008. Apparently suffering from some form of depression, he killed himself on 24 June 2008. His new wife was about 5 months pregnant, we had her move back to Durango with us, then returned to San Diego to give birth to their baby girl, Kahlia Louise; Kahlia is staying with us in Durango until her mother, Deanna Cheri, finds a job in the San Diego area, then we will travel there to reunite her now four-month old baby with her. Please say "Hello ! " to Jim's Paraclete HS class for us - we knew a good number of the football and baseball team members during those four HS years.
I first would like to say I am sad to hear of your loss, as a fellow Marine I know I have lost a brother. Funny how life works, there was a good chance he and I were stationed at the same place at least once or twice.
Thinking back to our H/S days I remember Jim very well, on the football field he was a large man in a small body with a heart of gold, as for baseball he alway's gave 100% as a player and a leader. He was a good man, hard working and alway's willing to talk about whatever the topic of the day was. I do remember you as well Mrs. Kerzon, always friendly and supportive of the players and the school.
My prayers are with your family, may Jim be in a peaceful home where we can see him again.
I too knew James. He wa an all around Great Guy! He was always laughing, and could always be there when You needed someone for support. It's with a sad heart that I hear of His passing. From the Owens Family to the Kerzon Family our Hearts and Prayers are with You.
To the Kerzon Family, I knew Jim also, he was a great guy. Anyone that needed a shoulder to cry on or an ear to talk to, he was always there. I send my condolences and I will pray for him and his family.
I am so very very sorry to hear of your loss. Jim was a wonderful person and someone that I cared about a great deal. I will keep your family and his new family in my prayers.
