Amy Duckett and I were lucky enough to go visit Eileen in the final months of her life. She fought long and hard, strong and proud. If you remember Eileen you know she would not go down without fighting. She lost her battle with cancer on January 2, 2008. I miss her.

I knew Eileen since the first grade at Queen of the Universe. We were good friends throughout our childhood into high school. Although we went our separate ways, we would occasionally see each other over the years. Kim Brown and I travelled to Florida in October 2007 to see her and say goodbye. She fought long and hard and I miss her. I have several pictures of Eileen on my profile page.

I met Eileen back in elementary when she and Mary went to QU. She was always spunky and full of attitude. She was always improving herself. She ended up graduating from college later in life, worked for a software company in Boston, met her husband and had 2 beautiful boys, and lived in florida. I'm glad we kept in touch and we were all sorry to see her go. Also, I think about how much fun we had at her wedding. A bunch of us made the road trip up to Connecticut, stayed at this quaint little inn on the water, I remember a bunch of us (including kathy, me, kim, and bill carney) walking on the beach, climbing out on the jetties and talking till late the night before her wedding (that was after the bar...)

It was upsetting to hear Eileen passed. I met her at Queen when I transferred in 7th grade. Eileen was always really nice to me as a newcomer and she seemed like alot of fun.I did not know her as closely as Mary, Amy, Kathy and others, but I wish I had. At the 20th reunion it was great to see her. We laughed because when I first came to QU she asked me "Did I smoke?" and I didn't want to seem uncool and told her "No, I quit." Ridiculous ...anyway, I was looking forward to seeing her again, but I'll keep her in my prayers.

Eilleen and I met in 10th grade. We were in Chemistry class together with Carol Waterbury. I got to sit right between Carol and Eilleen because Mr. McCartney thought my physical presence and maturity could prevent them from talking. Not a chance!  I could not control my own mouth let alone having the responsibility to control theirs. All three of us were having problems with the class. Mr. McCartney was moving through the material too fast for us. More likely, we were talking too much and didn't apply ourselves. We tried to get out of the class but it was too late. We tried to work with Mr. McCartney but, at the time, he seemed too demanding.

I got glasses in 10th grade. Carol and Eileen both thought they made me look really smart. They started to call me Thomis Olivis which to them sounded like an Harvard name.

Things got so bad that we were not allowed to go into the class and had to sit in the hallway outside of the class. For two weeks, we sat in the hallway until the Maple Point brain thrust figured out what to do with us. During this time, Carol and Eileen would sing songs. First it was '50's songs, then 60's songs and then 70's songs. After three days in the hallway, I even joined in. After a week, things turned to, "what are we going to do when we graduate". I remember saying with "F's" on our transcripts in Chemistry, we probably won't be going to college.

Eileen would always talk about clothing. This maker and that maker and I never knew what the hell she was talking about. I barely could scrap together a ripped pair of jeans and a tee-shirt.  I remember her always telling me about her boots and they were Frye boots, the "best" in the country. I always remembered the cowboy boots. I told her I would get a pair someday when I could afford more than irregular Converses from Mr. Snyder's sports store. We always kept in touch in 11th and 12th grade.

I would hear in the middle of the hall way Thomis Olivis. One of my memories of graduation is after Eileen got her diploma, she walked by me and gave me a big kiss and said we did it. She knocked my hat off and knocked me out of my chair and kept on going! All of us actually went to college. Eileen and I kept in touch as the years went by.

Our moms swam together at the "Y" and so I kept up with Eilleen through my mom when I could not talk to her directly. My mom and Eileen both became ill around the same time. Both were strong fighters and never gave up. Eileen, Kim Brown and their children visited my farm a year before Eileen passed. It was such a peaceful visit and I showed them every inch of the ground and answered all their questions about the animals and farming. She gave me a big hug when she left and knocked my Penn State cap off my head.

Last year I finaly got a pair of cowboy boots and they primarily sit on my shoe rack. Every time I pass them, I think of Eileen.
