I remember Peggy

I knew Peggy in high school but not well. Twenty-five or so years later we ran into one another quite by happenstance and became friends. We reminisced and shared life stories and perspectives. Peggy had gone on to earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees in French, a language she came to love, and education. She lived in France for two years, became fluent and travelled extensively in Europe. She brought her skills and experiences to her career teaching French to the very fortunate students at Plymouth High School. I didn’t have the opportunity to observe her teach, but I’m sure it would have been an inspirational experience: this diminutive living burst of energy and competence who exuded a love for languages and more broadly for knowledge and life-- a vision that brings to mind Irma Smith teaching us Latin at LEHS. Peggy’s education at LEHS and beyond served her well and she, in turn, served her alma maters by fostering their reputations as educational institutions.

It is with a sense of melancholy that I hope she suffered little in passing but felt sublime satisfaction, pride and joy in a life well lived-- a life that brought so much to others.
