I am 58 years old - married for nearly 36 years and a father of 7 children and a grandfather of 13 grandchilldren. I say this to preface my comments as they represent who I was, not who I am. I was head over heels in love with Melanie when we were in High School. I asked her out every Tuesday for a Friday night date, every week of our Junior year. She never said yes, but she was always my friend. She knew I was in love with her and she continued to be my friend. We saw each other several times as adults and she was always gracious and kind. I found out today that she passed away. This makes me very sad. There was never anything between us, but she was "that girl" to me and that makes her special to me - not just the memory - but who she was and is. It makes no sense to share this here - it is has nothing to do with who I am - but it has everything to do with where I come from. Whenver some asks me where I am from, I say - LaPorte Indiana. I only lived there for less than 5 years of my life but those were five very important and impressionalbe years - I feel a connection with that season of my life. We are getting older - many of our friends are gone - if you are reading this, I want to thank you for being a part of me and a part of the happy and innocent times of my life. I was a little geeky nerd then, and not much has changed - I pray for Melanie's family and for each of us - May God bless and keep you safe whever you are
Andy, I think of majority of the guys in our class share your sentiments. And maybe even a few girls...who knows? I had her as a swim partner in gym and it wasn't an easy task. Thanks for sharing hope you are well.
