One day during the first weeks at our new Neil Cummins elementary school in Corte Madera, Tim Ibanez and I were playing in the new playground and some older kids threatened us in classic bully style. In a flash, Paul Israel came over to them and said that if anything ever happened to us, they would have to answer to him. Paul will forever live in my memory because of that one spectacular act of bravery born of kindness. All day I have been telling anyone who will listen that Paul made my life work out well because though I am short in stature, he made me feel that I could be as tall as I want. Rest in peace Paul, knowing that you saved a little kid's life (and Tim's too maybe) so he could flourish as a 5' 2" adult. Eternal respect and thanks to you and those who mourn,                                                                                                                                                        Tom Graff (Graefe), Vancouver, Canada

Paul was a friend of mine.  I had known Paul since I was 7 years old and we were Cub Scouts in the same Cub Scout Den 8, in Pack 24, in Corte Madera.  The last time I saw Paul was at my brother-in-law's, Tim Morton, house in Trestle Glen, in Tiburon, in 1968, after I finished serving 4 years in the Air force.  I remember that he talked about lifting weights and how his daily diet was a 16 ounce steak and a head of iceberg lettuce once a day.  Paul was a good guy.  rest in peace, old friend.
