I went to UCSB and got degrees in biology, but had to work at my hobby of boatbuilding for a couple of years before getting a job with CA Fish and Game in Long Beach. We were not happy in LA area, so immigrated to Canada with our boat and spent some time cruising the inland waterways. Gave up on Canada due to a job shortage at the time, and ended up in Santa Cruz area in 1976 (our property was cheap but off the grid). Got an MS in engineering from UC Berkeley in 1985 and worked at civil engineering until retirement. We built a new house in 2000 in the mountains behind Santa Cruz, and we just completed a house on Lopez Island in Washington (retirement project). We go to New Zealand at least once a year to visit the grandkids but apparently are not going to move there because my wife is so involved with the music scene here in Santa Cruz.
