She was the precious fiancee and dedicated partner of Dr. Steven Gurgevich; cherished mother of Kristina and Joseph Krow, Michael and Christine Perez and Gioia and John Stenson; much loved sister-in-law of James Perez; proud grandmother of Gabriel Perez, Jordan Steele, Jamie and Marlee Perez, Noah Krow and Emily Stenson; dear sister of Lee Schaffer; loving daughter of Jeanette Schaffer and Irene Perez; loving aunt of Matthew Morbello; devoted daughter of the late Ed and Marjorie Schaffer. Preceded in death in 1996 by her beloved husband of 32 years, Tom Perez. Also survived by many special aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A longtime Pacifica, CA resident, Ms. Perez graduated Summa Cum Laude from San Francisco State University in 1994. She was greatly respected as an accomplished copy editor and journalist for several Bay Area publications.
For the past two years, Ms. Perez has split her time between her home in Pacifica and her home in Tucson, which she shared with her devoted partner, Dr. Steven Gurgevich. Together they co-founded Tranceformation Works, an internet-based business that provides healing resources and support for individuals and families experiencing chronic illness. This venture came out of their mutual experience of caring for spouses who had been terminally ill and their desire to help others. Ms. Perez and Dr. Gurgevich became engaged this New Year’s Day at 12:01 a.m., as their first act of 1999. They had hoped to be married soon.

I am sorry to hear about her passing. Throughout grammar school and high school, Lotus was always very kind to me and on those occasions when she would notice that I was sad or in an adolescent funk, she would ask me if I was okay. She was a sweet person. God bless her soul.
