Yanni once said to an audience of the Acropolis concert in Athens that we sometimes let life slip away, but all of life is precious and we must try to take in as much of it as possible.  That she did, until the waters that she loved so much claimed her life.

Julia Shew, an avid sculler in the Occoquan Boat Club and rowing out of the Sandy Run Marina in Fairfax Station, Virginia, was killed on the early afternoon of October 16th, 2010.  Julia had rowed very frequently since 2007, and recently achieved the distance award for rowing 3,000 miles in a single season.

She went out rowing on Saturday, October 16th as she usually had done almost every day for the past two years.  She would row in all weather conditions, and almost nothing was going to keep her off the water.

Throughout her life, she devoted herself to her family.  She had a talent for the piano and inspired a love for music.  Her sewing of stitcheries was quite prolific.  May she find peace among the angels in Heaven, and may she now look down upon us and guide us through our trials.

She would have been a very healthy 65 years old on October 27th.  She leaves behind a husband and a son.
