In Memory

Marty Scott

Marty Lee Scott, age 35, was called up on God to begin his life in Heaven on October 18, 2006. He was born on November 9, 1971 in Las Cruces, New Mexico to Pete and Sharon Scott. He was a loving son, devoted father, brother, cousin, and friend to many.

Marty was an amazingly talented young soul. In 1990, he graduated form Las Cruces High School. During his high school years, he was a Team Roper with the New Mexico High School Rodeo Association and in 1989 he earned the title of state champion. Although he was offered college scholarships and had an impressive academic record to boot, at 18, Marty was an already established young businessman. He had a knack for sales and followed in the family footsteps as an automobile wholesaler. His ambition and drive was admired by all who knew him. He continued a life long career in car sales until his untimely death.

In the late 90s, Marty decided to give car racing a shot and would set an example that his young nephews would soon follow. In 1998, he won the Hobby Stock Championship at the Southern New Mexico Speedway. He enjoyed racing and the camaraderie he found there. But more than anything, Marty loved to fish. He really didn't even have to catch anything. Just being there with a cold beer, a fishing pole, and Merle Haggard over the radio was good. Yes, this was all he needed for entertainment.

His biggest accomplishment in life and his most prized possession is his daughter, Chelsea. In all of his life there was nothing he ever loved more. She had him wrapped around her little finger and he wouldn't have it any other way. She was his pride and joy, the sparkle in his eye, and his reason for living every day. She was and always will be his "Baby Girl".

Marty had a gift at being able to make people laugh. He was funny beyond belief and at any given time could tell you three jokes you never heard. He was constantly on the move and always ready to have a good time. He was spontaneous, unpredicatable, and always the life of the party. Marty, we will miss your kind soul, your laughter, your humor, and the funny little ways only you had.

Marty is survived by his parents, Pete and Sharon Scott of Las Cruces; daughter, Chelsea Ann Scott of Las Cruces; sisters Shelly Scott and fiance Lee Knox of Santa Fe; Jody Golliher and husband Mark of Las Cruces; nephews Stormy and Johnny Scott; nieces Shandy Grider, Sierra Wickham, and Taylynn and Kallie Golliher. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, and cousins too many to name, who also loved Marty dearly.

A visitation was held Sunday, October 22, 2006, with services on Monday, October 23, 2006 at Graham's Mortuary Chapel. Pallbearers are Gene Alley, Henry Brumley, Mike Barnes, Lloyd Duffey, Mark Golliher, Bo Morris, Mark Morris and Anton Salopek.

I've had good times and bad, but if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't change a thing.
