David Medina

David D. Medina beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend entered eternal life on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at the age of 45. David was born April 28, 1970 in Las Cruces to Manuel "Bay" and Emilia De La O Medina. 
David married the love of his life Victoria Dean Medina on September 19, 1994. He was blessed with his cherished daughter, Amery Medina who then blessed him with two precious granddaughters, Mia and Szofia, "Papu's Angels." Others left to mourn him are his mother, Emilia; sister, Viola Clark and husband Eddie of Doña Ana; brothers, Jackie Medina of Doña Ana, Rey Medina of Rio Rancho, Benji Medina and wife Vanessa of Las Cruces; a special cousin, Jaime Trevino of Doña Ana; his father-in-law, Charles Dean; his mother-in-law, Clara Dean; sisters-in-law, Lisa Dean, Cathy Dean (Victor), Tes Guerrero (Alex); eighteen nieces and nephews, Vanessa, Ina, Joseph, Carlos, Devan, Andrew, Amanda, Angelica, Donovan, Olivia, Inez, Alexander, James, Rey, Aria, Ani, Richard and David. He was preceded in death by his father, Manuel "Bay" Medina; maternal grandmother, Lupe "Wella" De La O; his nina/auntie, Lucy Trevino and niece, Alyssandra Guerrero.
David graduated from Mayfield High School and was a Miami Dolphins Fan. After graduation, David worked with Security Concepts and went on to become a correctional officer with the New Mexico Corrections Department. He dedicated over 19 years to the Department earning his way up to the rank of Lieutenant. When he passed, David was working at Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility and was loved, respected and admired by all who had the pleasure of working alongside him. His accomplishments are many, David was a Master Fire Arms Instructor who certified countless officers in multiple agencies around the state of New Mexico. He was a long standing member of the Gang Task Force; the Security Threat Intelligence Unit; the Corrections Emergency Response Team, and served as the Armory Sergeant for many years. David holds numerous certifications, awards, and accreditations.
David had a great love of the outdoors and enjoyed nothing more than vacationing with his family. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. David would count the days until the next draw. Hunting dates back to his childhood, when his dad, uncles, brothers and cousins would go out to the mountains. He also shared his love of the outdoors with his best friend and loving wife Vicky. David enjoyed taking the boat out to Lake Amistad in Texas with his wife or his buddies from SNMCF.
David was so proud when his daughter Amery joined the Navy, he took every opportunity to visit her when she was stationed in San Diego and more recently, in Hawaii. He loved to visit and spend time with his little angels. Mia and Szofia brought a whole new level of joy to David's life and he shared that joy with all of us.
Visitation for David will begin at 5 PM Monday, February 22, 2016 in Our Lady of Purification Catholic Church, 5525 Cristo Rey in Doña Ana where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 6 PM Family and Friends will join together to celebrate the Funeral Mass at 2 PM Tuesday, February 23, 2016 in the same church with Reverend Miguel Macaya officiating. The Rite of Committal and Inurnment of Cremains will follow in the Doña Ana Cemetery.
Serving as casket bearers will be Benji Medina, Vince Velarde, Joseph Clark, Michael Gonzales, Alex Guerrero, and Freddy Alarcon. Honorary bearers will be Jackie and Rey Medina, Eddie Clark, his hunting partner, Donovan Medina and all his brothers and sisters at Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility.
