Red Rooster Memories

My brother and I are attempting to put together a book celebrating the Rooster. Personal memories, favorite groups and what you remember and feel - please let me know. A favorite song would also be good as a CD would accompany the book.

Thanks.

Steve- I remember going to the Rooster with Becky Smith and her cousin, Linda every weekend or at least it seemed that I was always there. The funny thing I remember is the steep hill going down. My mother used to drive to and fro every time until I was old enough to drive myself. I think I started going there when I was 14.

There were two bars-one as you walked in to the left and one at the back right. We only ever had pop! The stage was directly in front and they had all of the best groups from Motown. I remember Mrs. Hartman asking us in gym class who we would like to see-she would usually give us a choice between two artists. I loved all the music.

Hot pants and white patent boots were soooo cool!

I hope you get a better response and can put this together-it's a great idea.  Lin Washburn Ware

I too remember the hill in and out of RR.  Saw some really goods groups as they were just getting started.  The Grass Roots, The Happenings, Tommy James and the Shondells just to name a few.  Fun times and you couldn't touch the value on the dollar nowadays.  Midnight Confession is still one of my favorite tunes.

I remember going to RR with Dottie Morley and "Phyillis" (Beth) Palmer (I was "Pickles")  to see Question Mark and the Mysterians:  96 Tears.  We were hanging on the stage and the lead singer was so ugly and greasy looking.  His fly was open and the 3 of us were howling as his tightie whities were peeking out with every dance move.  Not realizing we were laffing our axxes off at him, he must have thought we were really getting into his routine because he kept looking directly at us smiling and dancing all the more. Funny the things you remember......and the things you don't!

I really wish we could come up with a list. Sly was there, Lou Christie, Jr Walker to name a few. Are any of the Hartleys still around?
