He was so quiet in HS, even more quiet than me! I remember once I had lost a homework assignment, I was really panicking. His locker was near mine and he must have found it and turned it in to the teacher for me. When I got to that class I found out that he had turned it in and I was so grateful to him. The next time I saw him at his locker I told him "thank you" but he wouldn't even hardly look at me, he just turned bright red, mumbled "that's okay" and left.
Stephen sat behind me in homeroom in 10th grade, when I was the new girl in school. Like Chris said, he was extremely quiet, but a really nice guy. I remember when this happened - I was on a business trip, watching CNN when the news broke, and I was very upset, as they reported it was a bunch of soldiers from our area that were hit. I have a "Heroes Remembered" article from Newsweek, March 1991 a week after it happened, with Stephen's picture in it - I keep it in my yearbook. RIP, Stephen, and thanks for your service to your country....
