In Memory

James R. Smoot

James R. Smoot

Received these comments from Donna Smoot.  Will post the obiturary as soon as it is received.

I am mourning the loss of my dear sweet Jim. He passed away peacefully at our home in Cloverdale on December 11th after his 4th battle with cancer since 2001. Jim was a loving husband, Father and Grandfather to our family.
Jim joined the Marine Corp. after St. Andrews and after basic training was sent immediately to Viet Nam where he fought for his country for 13 months where he was wounded two times and was awarded two Purple Hearts.
His ashes will reside at Arlington.

Jim was one of my favorite St Androids and I will miss not seeing him at our 50th reunion. My condolences to his wife, Donna, and his surviving family.

Jim was my best friend at St. Andys. We both were on the track team for two years and the two of us made many visits to Charlotte to go water skiing. Of course we never got in trouble doing anything. The last time I saw Jim was after we both left the service and he was in Charlotte training with JARS. He called me and I went out to where you guys were staying in a dorm on the UNCC campus. I met you Donna and your first child, and I regret we didn't keep up after that. I know it's been a while and the loss you must still feel. He was such a great friend and I miss him.
