Caryl, of Mint Hill, NC, passed away on Thursday morning, January 28, 2010 at Duke University Hospital after a courageous battle with Lymphoma.
Caryl, born on March 27, 1945 in Hackensack, NJ, was the second child of the late Martin Stanley Rehm, Jr. and Muriel Zengerle Rehm. She will be remembered best by her family as a nurturing wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and best friend to all.
Caryl attended St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, NC (Class of 1967) where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in French. She used her academic skills to encourage and tutor her children all through their elementary, high school and college years. To her friends and everyone that she met, Caryl will be remembered for her friendly, cordial, and positive outlook on life.
Caryl is survived by her husband of forty years, Kirby Dellinger, her daughter Connie Thomas and husband Tracy of Mint Hill, NC, sons Brad Dellinger and fiancee Audra Rovinski of Charlotte, NC, Todd Dellinger and wife Jennifer of Greenville, NC, Michael Dellinger of Mint Hill, NC, and her beloved grandchildren CJ, and Cammie Thomas of Mint Hill, NC. She is also survived by sisters Marjorie Bolyard and husband Roy of Summerville, NC, Betsy Lindquist and husband Greg of Atlanta, GA, and brother Richard Rehm and wife Lynn of Chapel Hill, NC, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Her family will miss her deeply.
Caryl gave of herself freely all through her life and leaves a lasting legacy of generosity and spirit. She was devoted to her faith and also was especially devoted to the teachers, students, and parents of the Philadelphia Presbyterian Weekday Kindergarten and cherished her friendship with the director Mrs. Dot Bartlett.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday February 1, 2010 at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church, 11501 Bain School Rd, Mint Hill, NC. The family will greet friends from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. at the church. Interment will be at Sharon Memorial Park.

Caryl was one of our suite's most admired classmates because she was always so much fun when we played jokes on each other. As freshmen, we had a little "friendly war" going on, and she participated with vigor. The fun we created with our tricks on each other still lingers in my mind. When we gather for reunions, we always talk about the fun we had together. We wish her health had permitted her to participate more fully in our recent reunions, and we all marvel at how her passing has actually brought us all closer together. Eleanor Brown (Bigger)
Caryl was my freshman suitemate and then roommate sophomore thru senior years. We were French majors together, visited in each other's homes, went to the beach, double dated, and had many fun times together. She was the "older sister" to the suite of freshmen we took on our sophomore year, and they all loved her. In both Suite Six and Suite Four of Albemarle Hall, Caryl was a big participant in the suite parties, and it was she who introduced us all to French onion dip way back in the 60's.Ele(anor) Brown Bigger '67

I will always remember the great times Suite Six, Albemarle, shared with Caryl. She was quick to laugh and share in pranks, especially when the pranks just might be on her. She epitomized a student from St. Andrews, a school that taught us how to grow up emotionally, spiritually, and morally. I will always be thankful for the time spent with Caryl and other suitemates with whom I shared important times--popcorn, birthday and Christmas parties, and late night "gab" sessions in the lounge. Caryl, you fought the good fight and touched lives along the way. Well done, good and faithful servant! You will be missed!
