Eric Douglas Dennis died suddenly on Friday, March 30, 2018 of a massive cardiac event. Eric was born on July 2,1974, in Provo, Utah—the first child of Douglas and Marcia Dennis. Right from the start, he was a joy to his parents, and he became a wonderful older brother to his siblings. He was responsible and honest to the point that his mom often said, “I would trust Eric with my life,” even when he was just a boy. He had some kind of clock in his head that brought him wherever he was supposed to be within one or two minutes of the time he was supposed to be there—even without a watch. He would hold his younger sister while she cried her complaints—sometimes about the injustices of her parents—and wondered aloud while walking the floor with his almost ten years younger brother, “I just don’t know what you can do with a brother this little.” When he became old enough to drive, he often exited the house with the call, “Does anyone want to go with me?” Few children have had any better big brother than Eric was. Eric became the temporary man of the house after he was nine when his dad left to work on his master’s thesis in the Middle East. For eight months he helped his mom hold down the fort—mowing the lawn, tending younger siblings and doing whatever his mom needed him to do around the house. After a few months of this, he asked her, “Mom, do you think when Dad gets home, we will still be this good of friends?” At this time and others, he was truly a lifesaver and took on responsibility far beyond his years. Eric graduated from Layton High School in Layton, Utah. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Dominican Republic. After his return, he married Lissette Escoto-Marte on October 18, 1995. They were sealed in the Jordan River Temple on November 30, also 1995. Together he and Lissette put each other through college. Eric graduated from The University of Phoenix with a bachelor’s degree in Information Technologies and numerous certifications and has worked in the computer field for his entire career. Tenacity, endurance and thinking outside the box were very strong characteristics in Eric. In his personal life and in his career, his stick-to-it-ness and creative thinking brought him through many challenges. Eric and Lissette became the parents of four wonderful sons—Liam 19, Ruben 14, and twins Ronan and Aiden 11. Eric was so proud of his family. He was proud of Lissette in her interior design work and got so excited about her various projects. He loved to tell about Liam’s incredible academic accomplishments and loved coaching and cheering for Ruben as he has played baseball and pursued his musical talents. He looked forward to seeing where Ronan and Aiden would find their own special niches as they grew and matured. Eric had a very strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ which he shared, through his powerful speaking ability in both English and Spanish, and with his associates in all aspects of his life. It sustained him through hard times and added to the joy of happy times for him. He served in the Church in the Young Men’s program and scouting, as a teacher of various age groups, as a high councilman in the Miami Lakes Stake and as the bishop of the of the Miami Lakes Spanish Speaking Ward. He also served as a translation coordinator during the dedication of the Fort Lauderdale temple. Eric is survived by his wife of 22 years, Lissette, four sons—Liam, Ruben, Ronan and Aiden--parents Douglas and Marcia Dennis, siblings Emily Eby, Brooke Hart and Ian Dennis, by his grandmother, Voniel Jacobsen, best friend Sokly Vann, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, and many friends.
