Diane Smith Nielsen

Our sweet, angel mom, Diane Smith Nielsen, returned to the arms of Heavenly Father on July 4, 2024, and was once again reunited with our wonderful father, LaMarr Simons Nielsen. What a reunion that must have been!

Our mom was born on March 3, 1944, in Murray, Utah to Frank Eugene and Vera Irene Walton Smith. She was taught by her parents the importance of family, sacrifice, hard work, laughter, and love. She learned early in her life that family is truly what matters most.

Our Mom saw the value of education and attended high school at Lehi High. She loved being a Lehi Pioneer and would dazzle people with the Lehi High cheer from 1962. She was part of the glee club, pep band, and choir. She took a sewing class in high school and learned that she was quite a seamstress.

Our mom was called to serve as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to the Central States Mission in 1965. She loved being a missionary and sharing her testimony of our Savior, Jesus Christ. After her mission, she attended BYU. Her studies were short lived at BYU as she soon found her sweetheart, LaMarr. They were married and sealed on December 22, 1967, in the Salt Lake Temple. Our parents started building a life together of family, sacrifice, lots of laughter and love.

Our mom always wanted a large family and was blessed to have 9 children who love and adore her so very much. She was a mother to so many. She enjoyed having a daycare at home and loved the children as if they were her own. She created a home filled with love, happiness, and joy. Our Mom made life so much better by turning something ordinary into something amazing and beautiful. She did this not only by her sewing, quilting, crocheting, and crafting, but could turn sadness into happiness and a little into a lot.

Our mom loves the Savior and she shared his love with everyone. She served, sacrificed, and loved as the Savior has taught. She understood what it means to be a true disciple of Jesus Christ.

She is leaving behind Sean (Lori) Nielsen, Gunnison; Melisa Hess, Sandy; Jennifer (Ken) Scott, Holladay; Kristi (Adam) Davis, Payson; Carolyn (Jason) Ashby, South Jordan; Todd (Haylee) Nielsen, Santaquin; Troy (Lisa) Nielsen, Bountiful; Sharlynn Nielsen, Payson; Traci Ann Nielsen, St George; Twenty-Five Grandchildren and Two Great Grandchildren.

Mom, you are missed by so many, and we love you.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel, 650 West 800 South, Payson, Utah. Visitations where family and friends may gather will be Friday evening, July 12, 2024, at the church from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. as well as Saturday morning, also at the church, from 9:45 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. Interment will be at Payson City Cemetery.
