Obituary for Neil Roger Price

Neil Roger Price died on August 25, 2022 in his home surrounded by loved ones at the age of 78. He was born on January 16, 1944 to George and Hazel Price in Lehi, Utah.

Neil had 3 sisters and 3 brothers. Terry, Phyllis, Diane, Rhonda, J.R. and Paul. Neil went to school in Lehi and graduated from Lehi High School in 1961. Neil was in the Navy for a short time but was released with an honorable discharge due to some health issues.

When Neil was 16, a friend of his introduced him to Donna Vergie Rushton and they began seeing each other. They enjoyed going to the record hop at the Apollo, Drive Inn movies, and the old Hi Spot in American Fork. They loved to take long rides through he back roads of Lehi and just spend time with one another. Neil and Donna married on January 5, 1963.

Neil and Donna were married for 58 years until Donnas passing in October of 2021. During their marriage, they had 4 children; Doneil, Cory, Terry, and Tracy.

Neil worked for Geneva Steele for over 30 years. After he retired from Geneva, he worked part time for Sportsman’s Warehouse in Provo for about 6 years.

Neil loved to hunt and fish. During their young married life, Neil drove an old green VW Beetle. It was the bow hunt and Donna wanted to help out, so she offered to drive him around looking for deer. The road was gravel and the sign to go faster or slower was to tap the roof of the car. Neil was standing on the bumper; he would tap and holler “Whoa” which in turn Donna heard “GO” and boy she did; like Mario Andretti on race day. The kids always joked that Donna should have written a book about all the times she almost unintentionally killed him. This was just one of those instances.

Neil and Donna loved to camp. When their family was young, they had a small Trailor. Two of the kids slept on an upper bunk above where Neil and Donna slept. Neil said that on more than one camping trip, they would end up with children rolling onto them while they were sleeping. They were involved with the Good Sams Club for over 20 years. They made many close friends, enjoyed traveling to other parts of the country, and enjoyed the charity work that came with it. In fact; they were camping in Ferron, UT the weekend before Donna passed away 2021.

Neil was a family man. He loved fishing and hunting with his boys. Sometimes those trips lead to a misadventure like the time Neil’s fishing boat decided to take a different turn than the truck. Cory and Terry had to go rescue his boat after it landed several hundred yards off of the road. Needless to say, he needed a new fishing boat after that trip.

Neil was a true character. One of his favorite hang outs was at Callies Café in Orem. Neil would give those waitresses pure hell, but it was not ever one sided. Neil loved to throw firecrackers or loud snappers in the restaurant. One day, he tossed a firecracker and several people thought shots were fired and took cover. Every time Neil got into mischief at Callies, his son’s Terry or Cory would hear about it. A couple of years ago, Neil’s mobility began to decline. One day he cut through Moe’s bar on the way into Callies. He would stop to rest at the pool table in between steps. As he made his way through the bar, Becky the Bartender would yell at him; “slow down! There is no running in the Bar!!!” Of course, he replied to her with a one finger wave. If Neil loved you, he would greet you with the one finger wave. When the kids introduced anyone to Neil, they would say; if my dad flips you off, that is how he says I love you.

Neil is survived by his three sons; Cory (Stefanie) Price, Terry (Jerry) Price, and Tracy (Joyce) Price. His brother’s J.R and Paul. 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife Donna, daughter Doneil, son in law John, sisters Phyllis, Diane, and Rhonda, and his brother Terry.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Intermountain Homecare and Hospice and the incredible nursing staff that cared for our dad during this past month.

As per Neil’s wishes there will be no viewing or services as he requested to be cremated. There will be a small graveside ceremony for close friends and immediate family on Thursday, September 8th at 10:00AM at the Orem City Cemetery 1520 North 800 East, Orem, Utah.

Ode to Neil:
Roses are red
Violets are blue
I have ten fingers,
And this middle one is for you!!!
