
John L. Shimfessel, Sr. 54, 101 Westwood Dr., retired engineer, horse trainer, and part-time Hertz Car Rental employee died Saturday September 6, 2003. Born in Lexington, and a son of Betty A. Bunting, Lexington and the late Marion Louis Shimfessel. He was a 1966 graduate of Lafayette High School and attended E.K.U. John was an avid golfer and Thoroughbred-racing enthusiast. Other survivors include a daughter, Andrea (Michael) Hobbs; a son, John L. Shimfessel, Jr. both of Lexington; three grandchildren, Nicole, Daphne, and Kaylynn; two brothers, Richard Shimfessel and Robert V. Bunting, Jr. both of Lexington; a sister, Geri Miller, Lexington; and several nieces and nephews; His stepfather, Robert V. Bunting, Sr. preceded him in death. Services 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at W.R. Milward Mortuary-Southland with burial in Lexington Cemetery. Casket bearers will be John L. Shimfessel, Jr., Michael Hobbs, B.T. Miller, Terry Smith, Joey Middleton and Phil Kearns. Friends may call 5-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

I about half grew up with Johnny Shimfessel. We lived around five blocks apart, and ran around as a gang of four-five kids from 1960 thru 1965. I remember him as a great friend and buddy. Having just learned of his death, I wish his family the very best. Jim Price
