Up until about 5 years ago I was the secretary at good ole LJHS! My husband works for Caterpillar in Decatur. Our youngest son was born with several heart defects. He had open heart surgery at 18 months of age at St. Louis Children's Hospital. I have learned several new "million" dollar words and can name all parts of the heart and know the functions of each part. We know what it is like to meet families who have had children with heart transplants, as Evan was placed on the list. Some of the bravest men and women I have ever met in my life are those who have children who have had transplants or lost a child with a heart that could not be fixed. While it was one of the saddest times of my life, and one that continues to nag at the back of my mind everyday we are thankful to God for allowing us to be Evan's parents and care for him. He pushes forward everyday! He is a true heart warrior! This event changed the course of all of our lives. Mainly mine, I now stay home with him and make sure that he remains healthy. The oldest, Zach is now a Railer, he played basketball throughout his junior high years and played as a Railer for his freshman and sophmore year. He is currently a junior and decided to get a job this year. He has future plans of becoming a conservation police officer. He has fun hanging out with his friends. He and his friends occaisionally show up at the house to empty the cupboards and fridge!
