Daryl L. Schoenfeld, 83, passed away Monday, August 24, 2026 in West Des Moines, Iowa. He was born on July 17, 1943 to Richard and Irene Schoenfeld in Lincoln, Nebraska. He graduated from Lincoln High School and Weslyan University, where he was a member of the Zeta Tsi Fraternity.

Daryl was a busy little boy, always thinking up new ideas. He and a friend skipped school in kindergarten to go "panning for gold" in Antelope Creek. When they saw police approaching, they knew they were probably in trouble! Daryl also determined the length and width of plywood wings he would need to fly his wagon off of the garage roof - and was very surprised when he ended up in the back yard. He cherished memories about his days on his grandparent's farm and loved to share them.

Daryl was united in marriage to Donna J. Barth on August 4, 1961. He graduated from Weslyan in 1966 and was drafted shortly after. He was sent to Fort Des Moines for OCS training and was advised by a recruiter that being a 2nd Lieutenant in Vietnam was not something you wanted to do if you had a wife back home. Instead, Daryl was posted to Fort Bliss Texas where he taught NATO soldiers about missile defense. He was honorably discharged.

Daryl worked as a claims adjuster for Woodmen Accident and Life in Lincoln. He transferred to Des Moines with National Traveler's Insurance in 1981. He was active in state and national insurance groups and achieved his FLMi, CLU and ChFC certifications. He retired from EMC in 2008 as their Corporate Compliance officer.

Daryl and Donna's daughter, Cynthia Ann, was born to them in 1978. Daryl was a "Soccer Mom" before the term was coined. He took Cynthia to dance class, on vacations, biking and taught her the Jitterbug. They shared a passion for Fantasy, reading, 60's music and a love for all animals. Their bond was formed at her birth and his love and pride for all she did remained strong throughout Daryl's life.

Daryl and Donna traveled frequently to Maui where their love of anything Hawaiian grew. When Donna became ill in 2012, Daryl visited her daily at the nursing home until her passing in November 2014.

In 2009 Daryl and Donna were introduced to Dan and Donna Wegner by mutual friends when the Wegner's moved to Urbandale. The two couples enjoyed playing cards, watching Husker football and trying out new recipes. After their spouses passed, Daryl and Donna Wegner began a new friendship which evolved into a special love that led to their marriage in April 2018. Golf, travel, family, and their dog Georgette were shared passions during their time together.

Daryl is survived by his wife, Donna Wegner Schoenfeld; daughter, Cynthia (Bill) Bahls of Grimes, IA; step-daughter, Kristin Wegner of Lincoln, NE; sisters-in-law, Lonna (Fred) Peterson of Madison, WI and Maureen Barth of Omaha, NE; brother-in-law, Doug (Renee) Weishahn of Lincoln, NE; many nephews, nieces and friends; and special friends, Bob and Jan Fenemore and Terry and Vivian Edwards.

Daryl was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Donna J.; his sister, Virola; and brother-in-law, Don Barth.

A celebration of Daryl’s life will be held Friday, August 28, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 8301 NW Aurora Ave. in Urbandale, IA with visitation one hour prior. A luncheon will follow the service.
