DIANE STOKES OBITUARY

Diane Ruth Renard Stokes
March 4, 1954 - July 18, 2022
Diane Ruth Renard Stokes was born to Mell and Marialice Renard in Lexington. Her fondest memories of Lexington were family and church gatherings at the family cabin at Johnson Lake. The family moved to Lincoln, while Diane was in high school, and she graduated from Lincoln Southeast.
She knew from a young age that she wanted to be in the medical field, and she never wavered from that calling. She graduated from the University of Nebraska-Omaha as a registered nurse. She was an ICU nurse for 40+ years, at hospitals in Lincoln, California and Oregon. Most recently at the Nebraska Heart Institute. In addition to providing the utmost care and compassion to her patients, she was also a mentor to many new nurses.
Diane loved spending time with her children and grandchildren (and cats!), going on vacations and cruises with family and friends, and going to rock concerts. Her dream was to retire so she could volunteer at the Lincoln Children's Zoo and in particular feed the penguins. Sadly, cancer derailed that dream and took her from us much too soon.
Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter Kayleigh Stokes. She leaves behind her children: Natalie Bartling, Sean Stokes, Jessica Drieling; grandchildren: Jackson Bartling, Georgia Bartling, Ruby Bartling, Andi Pfarr, Haiden Stokes, Lily Stokes, London Stokes, Logan Stokes, Austin Drieling, Piper Drieling; sisters: Laura Consolazione, Carol Wells, many nieces and nephews and a myriad of friends.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 7, 2022 at 1pm at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery with a reception following at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. The family requests that memorials be given to Lincoln Children's Zoo, earmarked for penguins in Diane's name. www.lincolnzoo.org/contribute/
