Dear David, I remember you as an intelligent, upbeat positive fellow, everyone liked you. When you moved to Palm Springs, several years ago, we were always going to get together but it did not happen. We did call and text each other and were able to share some of our thoughts and feelings about our lives currently. I continued to feel that closeness that originated at LHS years ago. You were a good and kind man. I am so sad you are gone now. Rest in peace dear David! - Melinda
So sorry to hear this sad news. I have fond memories of Herbie beginning with sixth grade. He was always kind, caring, compassionate, and had a way of making you laugh at any moment. We were preparing for a class/school talent show... he had a beautiful singing voice and accompanied himself on acoustic guitar. Gone too soon! Rest in Peace!
David Adams and I became best buds after I met him when he came to Prescott in 4th grade. He was a big reason I started to learn to play guitar and he and I would spend countless hours playing songs and hanging out at my house. We remained good friends at Irving where we sang at the 9th grade talent show and were dubbed the local Simon and Garfunkel. I was super skinny and he struggled with his weight, so we were quite the pair. We imbarked on our Lincoln High journey together with lots of anticipation and stayed friends, although he wasn't so keen on following my psuedo-Hippie lifestyle. I will always be grateful for his patience with me and what I learned from him musically. May you rest in Peace old friend.
Sorry to hear that this kind and fun filled classmate has died. I did not know him as well as those who have so far posted. What I do recall is a very popular person who wasn't indifferent to those less prominent. He was roundly kind; that was a gift to many and a great example for everyone. I'll add that to the epitaph.
Thanks to Melinda, Debbie, Chris, and Ken for their memories of Herbie. Having only known Herbie at LHS it is comforting to learn even more about our good friend. When I think of Herbie I will always remember his performance as Baby John in West Side Story! The following image focuses in on Herbie and Chris and comes from the pages of our '72 Links Yearbook. When I look at this production photo I certainly recall his skillful and impacting performance on stage . . . but far more importantly . . . I recall his generosity of spirit, the joy he brought into a room, and the depth of love that he shared with us all. RIP good friend!
Herbie, Mary Raymer, Pam Kitzmuller, and I were MCs for the Aqualinks show one year. We put together some goofy skits to fill time between acts. We had a lot of fun, in large part because of Herbie's good nature and willingness to share himself with us. I always had fun when I was with him. I hope he felt the same.
Herbie/David sat behind me in our American History class in that room/converted gym that was always cold...intentionally it seemed, to keep students from falling to sleep!
One day, as I sat down, Herbie said to me "Loring, your mustache looks like a football field."
I apparently looked very puzzled by that. He continued "You know, 11 on each side!"
I laughed so hard I nearly passed my sip of water out my nose! Whenever an occasion arises to use that line, I seize it with gusto!
David was always someone I wanted to get to know better when we were in school. I always loved his personality, humor and kind demeanor. Sadly I didn't take steps to make that happen but I was fortunate later on and in the last 5-10 years to get to know him through my husband. They went to school together in younger years so they knew each other well. We'd met up with him on a number of occasions at Las Margaritas in Lincoln while he was living back in town. We had many good conversations and those will be some I will always remember. RIP gentle man. You are loved.
