Ben Craig

 

Benjamin Raymond Craig, 52, of Sioux City died Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel. 

Ben was born Sept. 16, 1952, in Sioux City, the son of John Debbs and Geneva Emma (Grimes) Craig. He attended Catholic Schools in Sioux City, then moved to Lincoln, Neb., where he graduated from Lincoln High School in 1971. Shortly after graduation, he returned to Sioux City, where he worked as a bartender, carpet cleaner, painter and as a caregiver for his mother.

He loved cooking, playing cards, watching movies and eating popcorn. He also liked a good story and enjoyed gaming. Among his other accomplishments, he boxed in a semi-pro match with a nationally ranked fighter out of Omaha. He won by a knockout in the third round.

He is survived by his mother, Geneva Emma (Grimes) Craig; three daughters, Jessie Stalder and her fiance, Jason Gibson of Lincoln, Neb., Nicole Kurtenbach of Temple, N.H., and Charlee Craig and her special friend, Mark Mash of Des Moines; two grandsons, Dillon Stalder of Lincoln and Danyell Mash of Des Moines; five brothers, Curtis Craig of North Sioux City, Jasper Craig of North Sioux City, Joseph Craig and his wife, Kathy of Ames, Iowa, William Craig of Le Mesa, Calif., and Phillip Craig and his wife, Karen of Mankato, Minn.; his special friend, Lisa Neal of North Sioux City; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Craig of Ponca, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Craig; and a brother, John Craig.
