Vickie Starling won her battle with cancer on Saturday, August 13, 2016 and is now cancer free in the arms of Jesus. Vickie passed away at home in Redington Shores, Florida on the beach which she called her heaven on earth. Vickie had retired from The University of Nebraska Athletic Department and had also been employed as Warden's secretary at Ware State Prison before moving to Florida. She was preceded in death by her mother Geneva Dilbon Bacon. Left behind to cherish her wonderful memory are her dad, Donald Bacon of Redington Shores, FL; her loving husband, Dale Starling of Redington Shores, FL; two brothers, Donnie Bacon (Denise) of Palm Coast, FL and Keith Bacon (Bonnie) Elmwood, NE; her son, Mike Kontos (Stephenie) of Eagle, NE; her daughter, Kelli Hogzett (Dustin) of Round Rock Texas; two step sons, Justin Starling (Tiffney) of Sparks, GA and Matthew Starling (Ashlee) of Brunswick, GA; nine beautiful grandchildren who adored her, Ryan, Alexis and Alyssa Kontos of Eagle NE; Avery Hogzett of Round Rock, TX; Drew and Paris Starling of Sparks, GA; Dylan Starling, Lili Henderson and Gabi Henderson of Brunswick, GA; and two very special friends who were like sisters, Diane Holland and Christine Hill of Waycross. As per Vickie's request she is to be memorialized by cremation and her ashes spread in the Gulf of Mexico that she dearly loved. Local services are with Reese Funeral Home of Seminole, FL. Vickie requested that any memorials be sent to the Humane Society of your choice. She loved animals. A memorial visitation will be held Thursday evening at Music Funeral Home in Waycross, GA from 6 until 8 o'clock for anyone who would like to pay their respects to this wonderful lady.
