Michele Nissen (Toole)

Michele Ann Nissen Toole, 64, from Lincoln, NE died peacefully at home on January 4, 2019. Michele was born April 11, 1954 in Lincoln to Robert “Bob” and Cathy Nissen. Upon graduation from Lincoln High School she enlisted in the US Navy. She proudly served her country as an Aviation Electronics Technician while traveling the world. After her discharge from the Navy, Michele attended Florida Junior College and obtained her associates degree in Nursing. She continued her life of service to others as a nurse for 40 years, with her passion being in Hospice Nursing. Michele also devoted much of her free time doing volunteer work for various organizations including Americorps and Christian Appalachian Project. She enjoyed helping anyone in need, and was especially passionate about disaster relief and helping the homeless. She was also very active in her church community and was a founding member at Journey of Life Lutheran Church in Orlando. Michele retired in 2014 and eventually moved back home to Lincoln to be closer to family. Michele is survived by her daughter Jill Diemert; son and daughter in law Sean and Kim Diemert; beloved rescue dog Baby; sister Kim Essman; sister and brother in law Barb Starr and Bob Starcher; 2 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 5 nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Robert “Bob” and Cathy Nissen. A burial service with military funeral honors will be held Friday, January 11th at 10:00am at Omaha National Cemetery, 14250 Schram Road, Omaha, NE 68138. Memorials contributions may be made to Compassion & Choices or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
