Carol Epp (School Nurse)

Carol Louise Epp (nee Wienss) lived a full life. She courageously embraced her journey with metastatic breast cancer into her 90th year. Carol died June 2, 2022 at her home in Minneapolis, MN, with family at her side.

Carol was born in Beatrice, Nebraska to Leo and Anna (nee Wiens) on June 20, 1931. Carol graduated from Beatrice High School in 1949 and completed her nurse's training at Bethel Deaconess Hospital, School of Nursing in June of 1953. Carol married Fred A. Epp in October of 1953, and their daughter Juliann was born in 1957 in Lincoln, NE.

Carol received her Bachelor of Science degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University. As a nurse, Carol worked on hospital staff, and as an instructor for the Bryan Hospital Nursing program. She spent 26 years as School Nurse at Lincoln High School, where she helped develop programs which supported pregnant and parenting students.

Carol and Fred attended Eastridge Presbyterian Church in Lincoln. They moved to Minneapolis in 2008 to be closer to family, where they attended Bethlehem Covenant Church. After Fred's death in 2013, Carol formed a friendship with James Mansfield and the two were married in October of 2017.

Carol is preceded in death by parents Leo and Anna Wienss (nee Wiens), and husband Fred A Epp, sisters Marjorie Ruth (Paul deceased), and Norma Friesen (Willard). She is survived by daughter Juliann Swanson (D. Philip), granddaughters Meta, Lina and Sonja Swanson, as well as James Mansfield and family, sister-in-law Marjorie Epp, and many nieces and nephews.
