Mary Barnes, 16, daughter of Mr./Mrs. Charles Barnes, 6323 Lexington, Lincoln, was killed near Waverly early Saturday in an automobile accident which also injured three companions, according to Deputy County Attorney, Ron Lahners.  The girl was killed when the car she was riding in left the roadway about two miles north of Interstate 80 on N 0th Street, according to reports.  Injured in the accident and listed in good condition at Bryan Hospital were Greg Schneider, 18, son of Mr./Mrs. Matt Schneider and John Applegarth, 18, son of Mr./Mrs. Clyde Applegarth, both of Waverly.  Both boys suffered multiple bruises and abrasions, a spokesman for the hospital said.  Also listed in good condition suffering from leg and arm fractures is another girl, Terry Vermillion, daughter of Mrs. Marlys Cooper, 3401 N 67th St., Lincoln.  Both girls were students at Northeast High School, according to Mrs. Cooper.  The driver of the car was identified as John Applegarth.

It was tragic when Mary was killed, she was in the prime of her life. So many died too young.
