AGE: 38 FORMERLY OF MARLBORO


Michael Robert Hansen, 38, formerly of Marlboro, died suddenly Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009, at home.

He was a 1989 graduate of Christian Brothers Academy. In 1995, he graduated summa cum laude from Kean University, with a degree in psychology. While at Kean, he was admitted to the National Honor Societies of Phi Kappa Phi and Psi Chi. He began his career working with the intellectually and developmentally challenged at The Arc, Tinton Falls. In 2001, he transferred to Preferred Behavioral Health, Lakewood, where he continued counseling. During this time, he was trained in and became a proponent of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. In 2007, after marrying, he moved to Ohio, where he worked at Appleseed Community Mental Health Center. He was part of a team of mental health counselors working with the most severe cases of mental illness. From high school until his move to Ohio, a period of 19 years, Michael also worked part time for the A&P.


Michael was predeceased by his father, Robert E. Hansen, who died in 2001. Michael is survived by his wife, Christina; and two stepchildren, Alissa and Dominic; his mother, Therese Hansen; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary-Ann and Hugh Guyler; and two nieces, Maura and Kristen.


A memorial service for Michael will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21 at St. Gabriel's Cemetery and Mausoleum, Marlboro, at which time his ashes will be interred. Although, he was an organ donor and a part of Michael will live on, his family will miss him dearly. He will never be forgotten.
