Mark Bernhard - Onboard 1981 VIEW PROFILE

Mark C. Bernhard, 58, of Kempton, passed away Saturday, October 6, 2018 at St. Luke's Hospice House, Bethlehem. He was the husband of Jill R. (Reifinger) Bernhard. They celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in May. Born in Allentown, he was a son of Mary Jane (Castle) Bernhard and the late Edgar D. Bernhard. Mark was a diesel and heavy equipment mechanic and operator for IUOE Local #542 for many years. He served as an Engineman in the US Navy and was awarded the Sea Service Deployment Medal (three times), Meritorious Unit Commendation and Battle Efficiency Award. In 1981 while serving on the USS Spartanburg County (LST-1192), he used his technical expertise to make extensive repairs to Yemen Navy's patrol boats, which contributed to the mission of creating goodwill between the United States and the Yemen Arab Republic. He was a member of American Legion Post #0637, Hamburg. Mark's excellent mechanical skills fueled his passion to help family and friends often. He enjoyed salt water fishing with his friends in Cape Hatteras. He was an avid Eagles and Dale Earnhardt, Sr. fan and loved the many dogs he had. He was a former member of the Kutztown Rod and Gun Club. Survivors: wife; mother; son, Dale N.; brother, David and wife, Karen; sisters, Linda M.; Kathy A; Theresa M.; father-in-law, Charles Reifinger; sister-in-law, Pam; nieces, Dayna, Danielle, Jamie and Amber; nephew, Blaine.
