Mrs. Grass will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., Flint, MI and may be viewed from 12 Noon-8 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Edna Marie Harris was born on March 22, 1949 to Elijah Harris and Eddie M. Webb in Little Rock, Arkansas the fourth of eight children. Edna graduated from Horace Mann High School in 1967 where she was a member of the drill team and was quite popular among her classmates. Upon her graduation, she moved to Flint, MI where she worked for General Motors Corporation as an Executive Secretary.
After marriage and 2 kids, Edna decided her life would be better fulfilled if she could stay home to raise her children, Xavier and Xylinda. From that point on she was dedicated to her family. In 1980 Edna married Marshall Grass and from that union she had 3 more children, Marshall Grass III, Marshea Venise, and Maricha Renae. In her life the things she has enjoyed most are of course her family, both natural and spiritual but especially her 5 grandchildren, Xavier Jr., Essence, Xavion, Zandrea, and Nia. Bethlehem Temple has been her church home for over 40 years. In her time at BTC, she enjoyed working with the Bulletin Staff, the Missionary Department, and children often facilitating the Easter and Christmas programs. Writing speeches and plays had been her passion. God had given her the gift to speak to the masses through the children. It has always given her such joy and pleasure to be of any service at her church home especially during Christmas when we would make and deliver fruit baskets to the elderly or shut in. This journey was not easy on her physically and after 19 years of dialysis, God delivered her from the earthy struggle on July 5, 2012.
Those left to cherish many memories include her 5 children, Xavier (Kawana) Smith, Xylinda (Jerome) Nickols, Marshall Grass III, Marshea V. Grass, and Maricha R. Grass; 5 grandchildren; my lovely sisters include, Ruby Lomax of Hot Springs, AR, Claudia Cade of Flint, Faye (Roosevelt) Watkins of Bryant, AR and Diane Veasey of Flint; my brothers, James (Linda) Harris of Little Rock, AR, Thermon Lavelle Harris of Grand Prarie, TX and Jimmy (Jonell) Harris of Hot Springs, AR; a few of my close friends include Sandra Bradley, Annie Beaugard and Evang. Gloria Dudley; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Grass was preceded in death recently by her husband, Marshall Grass Jr.; and parents, Elijah Harris and Eddie M. Webb.
