Liz- Our State Fair plans are ,if the race does not ware me out, going after lunch and yes visiting the kiddie rides. But we will visit the animal barns and the Hall of Industry as well before we leave. And I would be lying if I said we would not get a little of that highly tempting and fatting Fair Grounds food.

Hey local and long distance Lions,
Today was a great day to walk and give support to all of you who have had breast cancer touch your lives. Elizabeth did a great job rallying the troups(yeah Liz):)The Pride of Lions team surpassed the set goal amount(yeah) and for our first time we had a good number sign up to participate(in person or virtually) and those who participated had a good time. Elizabeth knows all the ins and outs of this race and for this first timer, it was very much appreciated. I got lots of goodies(including a cool looking scarf, beads(I did not have to flash anyone), samples, fruit, yogurt, etc.. They even had massages available( I was too shy for a public massage). I even got to look at downtown in the daylight in a very safe environment. The scenery alone was worth the walk, BUT OOOHHH baby oh baby the firefighters who stripped off some of their clothing made the view soooo much more delightful. Not to mention all the hot looking Miles and Miles of gorgeous, policemen, workmen of all kinds and just hunky men. Men on motorcycles , playing in bands, and generally supporting all the walkers. Not that I was looking being the shy girl that I am and ooh sooo married but???The eyes did see:) If that was not good enough their where bands from several schools and then night club type bands at several spots along the way, and politicians, the governor, NLR mayor and Little Rock mayor supporting the run. After the race Kim Mordecai had a layout that can not be surpassed. She went all out. She had all kinds of drinks, muffins, kiches, sticky buns, fruit, etc. Plus great conversation. Thank you for the lovely brunch(Yeah Kim)I hope this lets you know from a first timer that the race for the cure can be a fun way to support breast cancer and maybe find a cure. Oh, Liz , I thought your spirit stick was awesome , also.

Well now I am off to the State Fair- ooh my legs are getting a work out today.

p.s. Remember even us not so skinny gals can walk and pretty darn well, so don't let size keep anyone from joing in next year.

The stripping firemen were cracking me up!

I looked for the Class of 83 but didn't see anyone - I was hoping!

We celebrated my aunt (one-year survivor) and remembered my maternal grandmother today. It was a great day.

Gina- Liz found us a spot at the front of the race behind the runners and some walkers and we had a pretty good pace. My shirt was sent in the wrong size so I had a black shirt and bottoms and carried my shirt. Liz was in the traditional attire with the white shirt and black bottoms. We met at the left of the stage but never saw you, sorry. My husband couldn't see me on T.V. but we did pass alot of cameras. We are front row people (meaning short) so I told him the tall people took the lime-light:).

Tina- I had a great time at the Fair. This years weird thing to try was called a "pig licker". It is bacon covered with chocolate. It did not taste bad but I only wanted one bite to just see, though my husband finished it off. I mostly tasted chocolate(yeah). There was really good real food at "Boss Hogs Good Food" but pricy. I loved the pork chops(giant-sized)
I felt real proud I rode two rides with my teenager and faired better than him. We rode the starship 4000 and the orbator. After the first one my son walked off like he was drunk and after the second ride he had to sit down. The old mama has still got it. :)
The runway with all the games you pay money for are the same except for those in the kiddie area. The kids get to win anyway(yeah). The Hall of Industry was the same with people having drawings to enter, food and things to sell but as always a place with good air conditioning(yeah)to escape from the heat. The petting areas where fun for my daughter who loves animals. The animal barns still stinky with beautiful animals in them.
The Arkansas Idol contest was going on and two really talented ladies tied for first(maybe we will see them on the American Idol show). The band from Bryant ?Highway 123(I think was their name) was really good. I was too tired to stay for Bo Bice. I ran into Sonya and her husband on my way out. Hope you had fun Sonya.

Well, Karen did a great job on the Race Report. I can't really add anything, except to say that in all her shyness, Karen let loose with quite a few "woo woo's" at the firemen and at some of the cute cute CUTE 3 miles of men participants. I was also not sure she would not have flased for some beads had the race lasted another mile. Guys, I hope you will join us next year as 3 Miles of Men participants. The newly designed chocolate brown shirts looked great, and the guys looked like they were having an AWESOME time (except for the poor yoga fellow who almost fell down trying to do "tree" pose).
Karen is very motovational to walk with. If any of you are walkers and live near Sherwood, I would tell you you should walk with her. I sort of wanted to slipt off and take the shorter race route, but she kept me going, and I am glad I went the distance.
Thanks again, Kim, for the lovely brunch. I ate like a fattening pig. Sony, it was great to see you and have a chance to visit.
I did not make it to the fair with anyone this weekend, though the kiddie rides are about my speed (grown up rides make me feel bad. Plus, I have seen who sets those things up - and in the space of a day or two - scary). I heard about the bacon on the news. I love bacon, but hate chocolate, so it seems like an awful way to screw up a perfectly good piece of pork. I am a polish sausage and carmel apple girl at the fair. I think I have not been to the fair, though, since I used to work at my friends button booth back in college. I still recall those lovely carmel apples though... mmmmmmm. Perhaps I can get someone to go with me after work someday this week.
Anyway - I will try to figure out how to post some pictures from the race later on. I have to get ready for a little babysitting right now.

Hey everyone .. I am back in Virginia now and trying to rest up from the drive. Its a long one, but it was worth it. We made it down Friday afternoon and visited with by brother in Benton, went out and had dinner. I got a call from Kim M. that afternoon, wanting to make sure I knew where to meet up and to see if I would make it to her house. The plan was to come over after the race, but I didn't make it. I also flubbed up and didn't find the class. I had no idea where the stage was at either, so missed that. I took lots of photos, as this was my first walk, let alone after finishing my treatment. I was a weinie and did the 2k walk, which was a good start for me. I truly enjoyed myself and will definately make it an annual thing. My goal is to be ready for the longer one next year. Still have some weight I am working on losing, lost 38 while on treatments, and have kept it off. Now working on getting some more off. I'll be ready next year. I didn't make it over to Kims after the walk either, and am sorry I missed it. Sounds like everyone had a blast and that she out did herself, which is what Kim does, from what I understand. She does a great job getting stuff together. If anyone else took photos, please, lets share them. I am getting my uploaded this afternoon and will share them as well.

John.. I am sorry dear friend .. it turned into a normal family weekend .. anytime we are in town, its meet with family and go to dinner. And, with this being the first time that we've seen each other since my treatment, it was more of a family get together. We are planning a trip back down, hopefully in December. I am flying to Springfield, Missouri to pick up a car for our son from my sister. I plan to drive to LR to visit and I swear, not a promise, I swear we will have that dinner. Once we got into Arkansas, I started with a scratchy throat and congestion and it progressed from there. Again, I am truly sorry for missing you. Other than the race, and I almost talked myself out of that, I didn't do anything other than family related. We visited the cemetary for my parents grave, drove by the old home and just went through things of my parents. I picked up one of my fathers old bibles to send to Nik. Their platoon has taken some pretty good hits over the past month, so I figure something of papa's to help him out. I will contact you when I have plans more firmed up for my trip.

I received a phone call from Kim Hinson Jobe around 1:30 today. Brena Bush's daughter Danielle Cotton passed away last night. I don't know any details right now. We think the funeral will be Sat. I will be going. If anyone wants to ride or carpool, let me know. School ends today at 3:40. You may call me after that. I cannot go until after Friday night football game, so I will leave as soon as needed Sat. if that is for sure when the funeral is. I will let you know more as I find out more.

Oh my gosh! I can't lay my hands on my directory right now but I'm going to look for it. Is Brena's info in there?

:( I cannot imagine how she feels and I'm devastated for her. We aren't made to bury our children.

I am at work. I will look when I get home. I only have her cell phone with me--I doubt she is taking calls.

10/15/08 03:56 PM #745

Stephanie Butler (Percefull)

Those of you that would like Brena's mailing address, just drop me a note and I will email it to you. I am sure she would appreciate cards. She does not have email. I have her phone number, but doubt she is answering it right now. Please keep her family in your prayers.

Goodbye, but not forever.

We can tell by the tears
That the rumors are true
The rumours we heard
Were all about you.

They said you were gone
Now we know that its true
But please hear this
We will all miss you.

Its hard to think
We wont see you again
Gone and thats it
We've all lost our friend.

Tears keep on falling
Not much we can do
Just please know that
They're all falling for you.

These tears will keep falling
They will not stop
We wish you were here
But know that your not.

Now a moment of silence
For the loss of our friend
Please don't let goodbye
Be all there is at the end............
