I remember Jay as the mad scientist type back in junior high. He was always creating something and liked to make his own dynamite. He was an incredible genius. I remember reading the newspaper article when the incident occurred. The article stated that Jay and another man were looking at a gun, when it accidentally discharged into Jay's stomach. What a crock! I have been shooting real guns since I was about 5 years of age. I have dropped loaded guns accidentally on the floor and have never had one discharge. There is nothing accidental about the gun discharging that killed Jay. The other guy shot him end of story. I never heard of any charges or anything else about it. The last time I saw Jay was in 1987 at UALR. He had just started school, was married with a couple of kids, had kicked his drug habit and was turning his life around and a year later was gone. It is sad, Jay was always a friend and will be missed.

I know exactly what happened. Unfortunate the shooter was a long time family friend. Guy got this new gun & was going around pulling the trigger on everyone. He had been at my house the day before Jay was shot & did it to me as soon as I opened my front door. Unfortunate for Jay the guy had his gun loaded that particular day & knowing guy he was loaded too. The one shot to Jay was fatal. It was horrible. Every since that day no one in my family ever associated with him again. I understand he's moved to southern Arkansas. I hope so. And karma will get him one day. My family loved Jay & his whole family. Great people. Since then we have lost Roger. I pray him & Jay are together & we will be reunited one day.

Had they called an ambulance right away Jay would have survived. Terrible situation.
