Alan Wells

Alan Donald Wells, 45, formerly of Eagle, died Sunday after a fire at his home in Clifton. An electrical fire resulting from an old switch on the front porch light is thought to be the cause of the fire.

Alan was born June 23, 1961, with his twin brother, Robert, in Denver, to Alfred and Helen Wells. His family lived in Littleton until he was four. After seven years living on the Mississippi Gulf coast, the family returned to Littleton where Alan graduated from Columbine High School. He later went on to complete a professional chef education program at the Carnegie Culinary Institute in New York, leading to the executive chef position at many restaurants in Denver including Pasquanels and Baby Doe's.

In 1986, Wells moved to the Vail Valley and continued his career at the Charter at Beaver Creek, the Poste Montane and the Holiday Inn at Vail. He also ran the bakery at City Market in Avon for seven years.

Alan changed careers, becoming a master electrician and later owning his own business, South Paw Electric, working throughout the Eagle County.

Alan loved working with wood and rafting, and had a passion for fly fishing. He enjoyed tying his own flies and it was said that he could read a river better than most.

He was a devoted father and loved spending time with his children, Nicole, 17 and Timothy, 12.

Alan left Eagle last year and purchased a home in Clifton only a block away from his twin brother. Alan had just finished building two new bedrooms for his kids on the lower level of his house. He was working for Encore Electric and had been working on jobs in Aspen, temporarily living in a house in New Castle throughout the week, returning to Clifton on the weekends.

Alan is survived by his children; parents; older brother David Wells of Littleton; twin brother; sister Carol (Jim) Ringer of Littleton; nephews Calvin and Jake; friend and ex-wife Claudia of Eagle; good friend Bonnie Strong of Rifle; many friends and colleagues throughout from the Vail Valley, Aspen to Grand Junction.

He will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Alan was great...never had an unkind word to say, and always had a smile on his face. I am shocked to hear of his passing. He will definitely be missed very much.

Alan was a great guy. He and his brother Robert were the first friends I met when my family moved to Littleton in 1973. It was fun because we all had the same last name. We played football together on the same pee wee team. He was one of the good guys you meet along the way in life.

I ran into Alan at the Eagle Co fair. Just talking to some random guy and I mentioned being a Columbine Grad. He said "so am I". Took me a while to get his name out of him. I told him to say hey to Robert for me. He lived in Edwards at that time and was working as an electrician. What a nice guy! RIP Alan
