While I didn't know Vern Barr, Jr. too well in High School, I did know his father Vern Barr, Sr. very well as he was my manager at Sandia National Labs for several years. Vern Jr. preceded his father in death, and it was sad to see the toll it took on his father... who passed away a few years later. I believe father and son were very much alike in that they were natural born wizards at mechanical-engineering applications. They could easily approach a proplem and apply engineering solutions that would be challenging to most other individuals. After being mentored by Vern Sr., I only wish I could have know Vern Jr. better.
I was recently watching an old Harrison Ford movie - Witness - when I realized that the old man, Eli Lapp (played by veteran actor Jan Rubes), looked just like Vern Sr. and Jr.
I knew him as Charles Barr and first met him at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Sunday school; we would later meet up at LHS and do stuff related to technology and electronics-- Mr. Spragge's class.
