Gene was one of the nicest individuals I've ever met. When I first met Gene, we were attending Marylin Avenue Elementary school. While we didn't pal around together (we hung around different crowds - he being a gentle giant with not much athletic skill, and I being a school jock), we always felt good being around each other when circumstances permitted. I remember the latter part of our 5th grade year when we both mentioned we'd be moving across town and going to different schools. I really felt like I was losing a dear friend. Fortunately, we both ended up at East Avenue Jr. High and soon rekindled the old friendship. It was in the latter part of our High School days that I really got to know Gene much better. He was such a nice person. And once you got to meet his family, you could easily see how Gene turned out the way he did. And what a mechanic! That guy understood just about everything that went into making a car go. Still miss ya Gene!
I met Gene in Mr Corsons Mechanics class , He did know his way around cars and engines .
We both were teachers aids in Mr Corsons class so we got to see alot of each other and work on cars and put troubles in motors for you all to find ( damm I loved that ) Gean and I won a trip to Lawerance Livermore Labs in 1976 for excellance in Power Mechanics and got to see some cutting edge technology ( Lasers / Water jet cutting/ multi axis lathes ) some real great stuff for a couple of Men.
I lived next door to the Miller family on Compton Court. His family came from a farm in South Dakota. Gene was truly the sweetest fellow, kind and good hearted through and through. I knew he was afraid of the water, so when I learned that he had drowned I was devastated. His was a brief life but he made an great impression on everyone he knew.
