In 1966, I attended the third grade with John Reynolds at Green School.  John was the class clown. If the teacher chastized John for misbehaving, John would stand at his desk and do this hilarious imitation of Oliver Hardy.  He would flutter his fingers through an imaginary necktie, as if playing the clarinet, proclaiming, "oh Mr. Griggs!"  John was my best friend then.  John lived off Greenville Road and I lived on Oakmont Circle, a few miles away, but those few miles seemed like a hundred when I was a child.  One Saturday, I was walking through a catwalk that connected Oakmont Circle with Crestmont Street. I was feeling bored and blue because I had no friend to play with.  Suddenly, I looked up and saw John on the other side of the catwalk.  His mother had dropped him off to visit me.  We both broke out in huge grins and sprinted toward each other.  We then walked off with our arms around each others shoulders.  It was a moment of pure joy.  A magical moment for a child.  I wish prue joy for you John, Wherever you are.
