John and I go all the way back to Washington Hunt Elementary.  I used to walk by his house each day to and from school (remember when we actually walked to school?) and he was the undisputed king of basketball free throws because he was always practicing on the court in his driveway.  He was the first in our class to get the extremely high tech three speed "English Racer" bicycle.  And there was always the stop at Mac's Market for a snack on the way home from school.  He was one of the good guys for sure.

Like Keith B.  I remember shooting many baskets in John's driveway, and I think he made 21 out of 25 foul shots in the Emmett Belknap gym either during lunch break or gym class. Someone gave him the nickname of "Spoolies" because of his curly hair. I always liked him a lot.

My condolences to John's family.  Yep, he was one of the original Washington Hunt group.  One day in 5th or 6th grade during a math class, the teacher asked:  "Does anyone not understand?" I raised my hand and the teacher said "John go over and help Carol".  John was very smart, CUTE, and I had a crush on him.  I don't remember hearing a word he said, I froze.  When teacher asked if I later understood the math, I lied and said "Yes !"   John was a very nice person.
