Sharie Ann Higbee 1957 - 2009

Sharie Higbee returned to the loving arms of her Heavenly Father and earthly father Saturday, June 20, 2009, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Sharie was born May 26, 1957, in Cedar City, Utah, to Arthur L. and Mona Taylor Higbee. She moved with her family to Salt Lake City and then to Logan, Utah, where she spent the first 22 years of her life. She later moved back to Salt Lake City where she lived until the time of her death. She attended SUSC in Cedar City for a year and then completed her BS degree at Utah State University. She received an MBA from the University of Phoenix, graduating with high honors. She was married twice, first to Jeffrey Anderson and later to Jacob Smith. In her professional career she held a variety of interesting positions but at the time of her death she was an executive recruiter for STM Associates, a natural resources recruiting firm--a job she dearly loved. Sharie had many interests and talents. She was a highly skilled and accomplished glass artist, designing and creating many unique and original art objects in stained glass, glass bead jewelry and fused glass, and teaching classes in lampworking. She also especially enjoyed traveling to faraway places, reading, tending to her beautiful iris and rose gardens, and gourmet cooking. She was a talented musician, playing the piano, viola, and recently learning to play the guitar. She doted on her dog, Sasha, and ragdoll cat, Biddles. She had many wonderful friends and enjoyed spending time with them but she also believed in giving back to her community--spending many hours as an unpaid volunteer for the "Make-a-Wish" Foundation and donating blood platelets to the U. of U. Hospital blood bank. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She is survived by her mother and step-father, Mona (Kenneth S.) Richardson; two brothers, Terry A. Higbee (Kristine), Washington D.C.; and Scott T. Higbee (Nobuko), South Jordan; many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews; a special friend, Bill Russell; and Sasha and Biddles. She was preceded in death by her father. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 25, at 11:00 a.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State, with viewings Wednesday, June 24, from 7-8:30 p.m. and Thursday, June 25, from 9:30-10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment will follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South. The family expresses appreciation to the dedicated staff at Community Nursing Services--Dr.Anna Beck and Home Health Nurses Michelle Webb and Dana Travis--for their devoted care and concern during the last weeks of her illness.
