Carl David Schaffer

July 15, 1951 - September 27, 2011

Carl Schaffer, loving father and grandfather passed away peacefully at home on September 27th, 2011. Born to William and Emma Jean Schaffer in Scottsbluff, Nebraska on July 15, 1951. He was a Lompoc transplant via his father’s long and successful military service. He was preceded in death by his mother Emma Jean in 1973 and his father William in 1992.
He is survived by his son’s, Jason Schaffer (Stephanie) and Kyle Schaffer. By his grandson Rhyse Aaron Schaffer, his brother Mike Schaffer (Myriam), step-mother Donna Schaffer, his beautiful nieces and nephews, his family in faith at New Hope Christian Church, and an abundance of friends especially Connie Lao and those that supported his passion, the Food Pantry, he is also survived by the wives that blessed him with his son’s that he was so proud of, Janice and Terry.
Dad had a passion for food and motorcycles. Food to feed the hungry, we surmise it was because he at times had been without and motorcycles because he loved the freedom they provided him. He was also an avid Minnesota Vikings fan and NASCAR fan.
Dad worked at Johns-Manville (Celite) and forged many friends who knew his sense of humor and love for life. He also spent some time in the desert in Victorville. We believe that God started his work on him while he lived in the desert as he worked at the Food pantry where he gained the knowledge that he needed to build the food distribution ministry in Lompoc.
God gave him a calling and he built a legacy through the New Hope Christian Church food pantry program. He was instrumental in building the ministry for the under resourced in Lompoc. He was not only gracious and kind to the recipients of the program he was also professional in his dealings with the grants and information needed for compliance for the program. He had become a Board Member of the New Hope Christian Church in March of this year. 
The last scripture he was reading before his passing is that from Proverbs 3 1:4 – My Son do not forget my teachings but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many year and bring you peace and prosperity. Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. We are proud to say Dad lived his life with love and faithfulness and won the favor and a good name in the sight of God and Man.
Whenever we hear the roar of a Harley, we will think of Dad, riding with the Angels.
