I met Paul on the first day of 3rd Grade. He was new, and because our last names began with S, we sat at the same table. We saw each other all the time, had countless sleepovers, and tons of fun.I can hardly think of a childhood memory when Paul wasn’t there. We delivered papers together on our bikes – he’d take one side of the road and I’d take the other. We’d always end our Saturday morning delivery with a cup of hot chocolate and a warm danish at the local 7-eleven.
We spent about every quarter we made on comic books or on video games at the local arcades – becoming experts at games like Donkey Kong, Asteroids, Zaxxon, and Paul’s favorite – Tempest.
We did Boy Scouts together – went to camp, slept in tents, trailblazed hundreds of miles of wilderness, and got scared out of our pants up at Milner’s Mine.
I remember Paul’s family was one of the first to get the original IBM PC – and from that day forward, our interest in computers grew. He helped me learn computer programming and was a big influence on me to later get my Computer Science degree. We wrote and played computer games like the original King’s Quest and Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy – and would literally stay up all night to figure it out.
We went to our first concert together – Huey Lewis & the News. We camped up at Red Feather Lakes. We blew up our rafts with our lungs and would paddle around the lakes and see how far our walkie-talkies would reach. Paul forgot his sleeping bag and stayed up all night by the fire to keep warm because he didn’t want to leave.
The best spring break of my life was taking a trip down to Scottsdale, Arizona, to stay with Paul’s grandparents. We played tennis, went swimming, had a blast at “Golf ‘N Stuff”, and just relaxed.
We were in Civil Air Patrol, went to Air Shows, worked at two different Dairy Queen’s together, and were Tennis partners for 3 years in high school. We would listen to the Rocky IV soundtrack to get ourselves psyched up for the matches.
Paul was the Best Man at my wedding. I was there when Paul was sworn into the Air Force, tracked his impeccable record through tech training and on to his assignment as Crew Chief of the KC-135 tanker. I could tell he really loved that job.
I pretty much lost touch with Paul after that. I traded a few e-mails and saw him maybe 5 times in the last 10 years. I didn’t know the Paul of 2003 very well, but I’ll always remember him as my best friend and he’s in practically every childhood memory I have. Rest well my friend.

paul was a great soul! i am completely shocked right now! i did not know paul passed way! he was just an amazing guy! very nice and thoughtful. i remember seeing him from time to time watching the broncos. the cameras would scan into the crowd and there would be paul with his face all painted up!!! it seemed like one year in particular paul was the go to fan in the stands, cheering away! this is just so surreal. paul will be missed.-jeremy gregory

Paul and I ran into each other in Denver after catching up at the 10 year reunion. We became friends and had a blast going to Broncos games and scuba diving together. I still miss Paul very much and think of him often.Lisa Overby
There are truely not enough words to even begin to describe the joy and happiness that knowing this man has brought to my life.....A true angel and I was truely blessed to have the chance to keep in contact with him after graduation and the years after....
Every time I think of him it brings a tear and is quickly followed by a smile....
He touched the lives of the people he knew and will always be kept close in my heart........
I love you!
