He was born Dec. 25, 1981, in Lorain, and was a lifelong resident.

He graduated from Southview High School in 2000.

Keene worked as a cook and server at Denny's in Elyria for two years.

He previously worked as an assembler at Marconi Communications, Lorain, and at Country Kitchen, Elyria, as a server and cook.

He enjoyed dancing, music, sports, and playing baseball and basketball.

Survivors include his parents Douglas and Ann (nee Guthrie) Keene of Lorain; brothers, Gyles and Douglas Jr., both of Lorain; half brothers Kyle and Andrew Keene, both of Lorain; and his niece, Hope Keene of Lorain, whom he helped raise while his brother served in the war in Iraq.
