Jesse Schultz VIEW PROFILE

Jesse Webb Schultz passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2011. He was a resident of The Villages, Florida, and was the son of M. Diana Webb and Turner J. (T.J.) Trapp, Jr., of The Villages and Los Alamos, New Mexico.

Jesse was born April 23, 1980, in Moab, Utah, and also lived in Springfield, Virginia, Los Alamos, New Mexico, and Albuquerque. He attended Los Alamos High School. He served his country honorably as a U.S. Army Cavalry Scout from 1999 to 2002. He was stationed in Schweinfurt, Germany, for most of that time and was part of the NATO Kosovo Force (KFOR) Peacekeeping Mission. He was awarded the Army Achievement Medal for service in the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment. He served in the New Mexico National Guard, Santa Fe, from 2002 to 2003 as a photographer. Following his military service he attended the University of New Mexico on the G.I. Bill. During his freshman year he studied under the University Honors College and was inducted into Phi Eta Sigma scholastic honorary fraternity; he graduated in May, 2008, with a Bachelor’s degree in English. Jesse married Breianna Gagne in May, 2008; they divorced in 2010.

Jesse was preceded in death by his father, George R. Schultz of Moab, in 1986. Jesse’s mother married T.J. Trapp in 1992; his step-father was a loving part of Jesse’s life and raised him as his son. In addition to his mother and step-father, Jesse is survived by his brothers Kevin Schultz of Los Alamos, David Slavens (Heidi) of Minneapolis, Shane Schultz (Stephanie) of Moab, Wes Schultz (Mandy) of Bagdad, Arizona, and Tony Schultz (Aidai) of Biskek, Kyrgyzstan. Jesse is also survived by his step-sisters Jennifer White (Ryan) of Colorado Springs and Ellen Trachman (William) of San Francisco; sister-in-law Jody Schultz of Los Alamos; grandparents Turner and Martha Ann Trapp of Duck Hill, Mississippi; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Jesse was smart, funny, and a friend of many. He was an avid reader, a student of poetry, and an excellent writer. He loved the outdoors. After moving to The Villages in 2011 he worked on improving his golf game. His death by suicide leaves a hole in many hearts. We mourn both who he was and the unfulfilled promise of who he could become.

A memorial Celebration of Jesse’s Life will be held in Los Alamos, New Mexico, at Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church (3900 Trinity Drive) on Saturday, April 23 (Jesse’s 31st birthday) at 10:30 a.m. All who knew Jesse are invited to attend. Jesse’s ashes will be interred at Santa Fe National Cemetery in New Mexico; arrangements for burial are pending. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (www.afsp.org) or the Humane Society (www.humanesociety.org).
