Hello to everyone. Will be off of here before anyone else gets on, so have a great night to all.

The stories are varied with Mom's illnesses. They go from esophagus trouble (might have to have surgery she says to Sherri, but don't tell anyone), swollen foot (like the time her toe nail came off and the swelling was gone in a day and I did not see any "real" swelling nor redness and she could walk on it), sinus infection, allergies, and now infection in her bladder. She says it has been there for 8 weeks. Did any of you know about this? I did not hear a thing about it.

She said Dr. DuPre (what a quack!) told her to go to the hospital on Friday if she were no better. That only gives her 2 days on an antibiotic. He, on the other hand, is out of the office all next week. And....what will they do over the weekend? Nothing!

The least he could do was give her the name of a specialist who could try to discern the bladder problem and a course of action before going to the hospital, especially on a weekend, AND when he is not even going to be around. Sounds like he is just blowing her off.

I tried to call the office to get the real story at 1:30 today, but he had already left and the other doctor could not talk to me. The receptionist said she would give him my number. He did not have a voice mail so I could leave a message. Can you imagine that in this day and time?

Anybody know what is really going on?

Mickey was doing better today; Dr. Glassman said this morning that he was doing very good considering the major surgery he had just been through. He got up and took a few steps this morning for the Physical Therapist and did good with the leg exercises. Got up with the help of the nurse and walker and went to the bathroom this evening. She was surprised he did so well - but she didn't realize he'd been using the walker for 3 months already. Up to 1500 on the breathing. I went to work at about 11:00am - he was dozing off and on. I was on my way back over to check on him at about 2:30 and he called me. Sounded really good and asked what I was doing. I told him I was just coming to check on him and he said they were working on the house and trying to put up a basketball goal so I needed to call the insurance company. When I got there he asked me if I had tickets to the basketball game. I asked him if he new where he was and he said - in the hospital. So.. some of the confusion is back - if any of you talk to him don't worry. The doc gave orders for valium last night to help him sleep and they gave it to him again today, and then the pain management doctor came in today and added Lortabs to his already strong dose of dilaudid. So needless to say he was feeling really, really good. I talked to the nurse and told her they may be overdoing it a bit. We don't want him in pain but we don't want him to get crazy on us again. Jen came in and sat with him for a few hours while I went back to work to finish up some things. However he had her call me and told me to get my "butt" back over there (modified for family forum appropriate language). I could hear him yelling at someone - evidently they were changing his bed and somehow the drain tube was pulled loose and he was hurting. Not sure if the aide did it or he did - but he was hurting and making sure they knew it. They called the surgeon and he said to go ahead and take it out - but he wouldn't let them touch him until I got there to calm him down. They did get it out without any further problems. Took him a little bit to calm down after that but he finally did. He was mostly coherent the rest of the evening, but every once in awhile he'd say something off the wall. Said once he wished we could get out of there and move someplace - maybe a house like Debi or Vickie's. He's still on a liquid diet but for some reason had indigestion all day. They had his Prevacid order messed up again and were giving him the generic again, so that may have been the problem, but he hasn't had anything to eat that should be causing so much indigestion. I got him some rolaids on the way home just in case it continues so that may help some.

That's about all for today. All in all a very good day. Still much better than he did with the last surgeries.

Going to sleep now!

zack and tori, hope you are better today.
lisa, andrew says throat is sore, should i be worried?
as for mom, was she ever checked for mrsa, i know it is a long shot, but could be why she can not get better. bladdar infections usually get better quickly, i thought she told lisa they said to go to er if not better in a week.
donn, what is wrong with your arm?
have a great day everybody!!!!!

THIS IS VICKI BUMANN AND COMMENTS FROM HER. IT IS NOT JIM BUMANN AND I DO NOT KNOW HOW I GOT ON HIS SITE, BUT OH, WELL.

Please do not, I repeat, do not suggest to Mom that she has, or may have, or may need to be checked for MRSA.

That is all we need for her to have one more thing to worry about.

=======********************************************************=======

She needs people her own age around her. I have suggested it; I even talked to Brother Gary about it. There are people at her church who do things, granted not many, but if she could get involved with a few of them, that would be 2 things to do in a month. Then she has bunco and her sisters-in-law lunches. That is about one thing a week. She can always go to church on Sundays. We could probably get her hooked up over at Beechmont Baptist Church. I think they have an "olders" day program. Mary Margaret's mom goes there daily.

When I suggest something, she vetoes it. Any thoughts?

WE CANNOT DO IT ALL. WE ARE ALL DEALING WITH OUR OWN LIVES WITH OUR OWN SETS OF PROBLEMS.

Again, any thoughts?

Yes, Debi..

I know you are not an April birthday. But you definitely are a TAURUS! Early May, I think; is it the 6th?

Yes, David..

I am waiting for a call to Dr. DuPre now. If he can clear up what is wrong with Mom, I will post it here. If you see this anytime today, call her just to say hello. You do not have to tell her you read something is wrong.

Update on Mom

The Dr. has still not returned the call so I do not know if he will. Mom said she is better and more calm.

She does not know what tests they will do or why he said to go to the hospital just 2 days after starting the antibiotics. Plus she got a shot of antibiotics for it to go into her system more quickly.

I reminded her that we have schedules of our own and I did not know who could come to the hospital to stay with her, so she said maybe she would wait. When I asked her if that is what she wanted me to tell the doctor (if he ever calls back) she then said she would go to the hospital. I asked her what was hurting so badly that she had to go to the hospital and she said she had acid reflux. When I asked her if she had taken the meds, she did not/would not answer me. Then her phone went off.

I am going to Michigan for 4 days, Lisa is going to Tennessee, Johnny will be at the wedding, also, Debi and David are working, Mickey is in the hospital and his family is taking care of him, Rickie just stays in that back bedroom, and Sherri is in Florida and is NOT coming up for Spring Break. Who can blame her?

Just so everyone is on the same page.....I do not know what to do or what to say, but I also do not want to be the one making the decisions by myself.

Your thoughts?

Take two aspirins and call me in the morning.

I cannot get MOM to answer her phone. Who knows why. Cannot fly in today to check on her, left her a message to call 911 and get herself to the hospital. Hope she is okay, if not then we have to live with that.

Love you all.

Talked to MOM at 6:30. Said she still felt bad, but would wait and give the medicine a chance to work. Said she let her nerves get the best of her and that she was sorry.

Thanks for worrying with me. Love ya

Debra Lou Short (Dissell)

Glad you feel better after talking to mom, Sherri. I was feeling so poorly and it took the antibiotics about 3 days to really kick in and start to work. So hopefully by tomorrow night she will start to feel better. But if it is acid reflux, antibiotics will not help, neither will the hospital. SmileyCentral.com Maybe your calling was just the medicine she needed today!! Thank you!

It is not enough to be busy; so are the ants. The question is: what are we busy about?

Our society must make it right and possible for old people not to fear the young or be deserted by them, for the test of a civilization is the way that it cares for its helpless members.
