Michael completed a Bachelor's degree majoring in Biology at Bellarmine. He pursued advanced training in biology and recieved a PhD from Johns Hopkins University. He then joined the faculty of the Microbiology Department of Louisiana State University, School of Medicine. He essentially spent the remander of his life as a New Orleans resident. He sought further training as an attorney and recieved a JD degree from Loyola University iN New Orleans. He practiced patent law out of the LSU Microbiology Department, specializing in patent law involving molecular biology. In 1964 Michael married Mary Darken. Michael and Mary had two daughters, Karen, now living in Baton Rouge with her husband and three children, Anna (14), Marlo )10) and Pierre (8) and Margaraet who lives in Louisville. Michael's brother Craig also lives in Louisville and Bob, his brother, classmate and twin lives in Memphis, TN.
Michael passed away June 15, 2007. He spent some time in 2005 and 2006 as a refugee from Hurricaine Katrina and became progressivly ill during this period. He died of complications of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.
