In Memory

Rajeev Gill

Rajeev Gill was born at St. John’s Hospital in Yonkers, New York, on February 28, 1975. He moved here with his parents and sister that same year, at the age of six months.

He graduated from UT Austin with a degree in Economics and later received a Master’s degree from Texas Tech’s Business School. He was a very astute businessman and was the President of Gill Holdings where his father, Dr. Gurdev Singh Gill, is the chairman of the company. Rajeev had a sharp eye for business and he and his father launched many successful ventures.

He was married to Carly Ann Gill and they have three beautiful and bright children, Sophee (9 years) and twin boys Jeevan and Keeran (5 years). He was a devoted husband and doting father. His father and mother (Savita) were full of affection and love for him and, as prejudicial as it may sound, his father, Dr. Gill says there will never be another Rajeev. Friends of Rajeev’s have said that he always indicated to them that his father, Dr. Gill, was his ultimate hero.

He was an avid sportsman and was a very accomplished golfer. At Lubbock Country Club he was also a highly popular golfer. To the country club members, Dr. Gill was known as ‘Rajeev’s father’. He was a lifelong supporter of the Texas Longhorns. Rajeev also was extremely well-read on a wide variety of subjects, his favorite being World War II.

His elder sister, Anju Gill, died 15 years back at a very young age. Her demise had a long- lasting affect on him. Rajeev loved his family dearly and reflected their values and beliefs in the way he lived. He was unassuming, charitable and treated everyone with the utmost respect. He carried himself with a legendary humility.

Rajeev shared two favorite quotes with his father and friends and Rajeev diligently followed the tenents of each: “You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him.” - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” - Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dr. Gill, his father, has framed these quotes and they are displayed in his office. Rajeev’s legacy will long live on in everyone who knew and loved him.

Rajeev memorial service will be held at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel 5740 West 19th St., Lubbock, Texas on July 8th at 9:30 A.M.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made towards the Anju Gill Academy, a school established in a very poor area of India and named in honor of Rajeev’s beloved sister.

Donations can be made out to and mailed to: Sun Academic Foundation, 4407 89th St, Lubbock TX 79424.
