Gene Harrison Moore obituary, 1949-2024, Lynchburg, VA

Gene Harrison Moore, 75, of Forest, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at his home. He was the loving husband and best friend to Brenda Driskill Moore for 51 years.

Born in Lynchburg on November 16, 1949, he was a son of the late James Benton "JB" Moore Sr., and Evelyn Camden Moore. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Benton "Jimmy" Moore, Jr.

Gene was a loving father and grandfather who adored spending time with his family. He led the family business, J.B. Moore Electrical Contractor Inc, for 50 years. And although he officially retired in 2021, he continued to maintain a presence at work, and created and taught an apprenticeship program that he looked forward to each week. Gene understood the importance of leading by example, both at work and at home. He loved golf, beach music, shag dancing, and spending time at his condo in North Myrtle Beach, where he volunteered for over 20 years on the Homeowners Association Board, often serving as President and lending ideas and drawing up plans for renovations and improvements. He served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard and was a member of Marshall Lodge 39.

His family will miss his comforting blue eyes, gentle spirit and playful smile, but will carry him in their hearts forever.

In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memory, three children, April Moore Mobley, and husband, Nick, Neil Harrison Moore and wife, Hollis, all of Lynchburg, and Dr. James Christopher Moore, and wife, Kelly, of Omaha, NE; four grandchildren, Reagan Barney, Balin Moore, Rory Moore and Ren Mobley; his extended J.B. Moore family; and other loved relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Gene's life will be conducted at 12 p.m., Saturday, December 7, 2024, in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, 427 Graves Mill Road in Lynchburg, by Rev. Phil Showers with Masonic Rites. The family will receive relatives and friends from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Tunnels to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
