Susan Rau Middlebrooks, of Macon, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2025. A Celebration of her Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Bass Road, with visitation following the service. Rev. Creede Hinshaw will officiate. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Mulberry Street United Methodist Church.

Born in Macon, Susan was the daughter of the late Livyan Sappington Rau and Louis B. Rau, and was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Julie Rau Middlebrooks, and her brother, Louis B. Rau, Jr. She graduated from A. L. Miller High School and went on to earn both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Wesleyan College, graduating cum laude and ranking #2 in her class.

Susan was deeply involved in her community, contributing her time and talents to the Museum of Arts and Sciences and serving as President of the Junior League of Macon. She was a life master bridge player and a longtime member of the Macon Duplicate Bridge Club and the Potpourri Garden Club, where she formed many cherished friendships. A passionate reader, Susan found great joy in spending time at the family’s vacation home on Amelia Island, often with a book in hand.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Sidney E. Middlebrooks; her son, Sidney E. Middlebrooks, Jr.; several loving nieces, Catherine Dubov and Rebecca Rau; and sister-in-law, Laura Rau.

The family would like to thank her devoted caregiver, Sophia Patterson for the love and support given to Susan.

Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Bass Road, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
